Canker Sores in The Mouth And How To Deal With ThemAn open wound (or ulcer) in your mouth, referred to as a canker sore, can make your eating and talking abilities difficult. Canker sores are diagnosed without the aid of tests. Our specialists can spot them with a simple visual examination at our medical centers. There are times when additional testing may be necessary, especially if your canker sores are severe or chronic.

Causes

Canker sores causes are yet to be scientifically explained. However, certain elements, such as viral infection, are known to be implicated.

Many variables have been implicated in developing recurrent episodes of canker sores, including a family history of the condition and the use of certain medications.

Sometimes, ulcers are associated with more serious medical disorders that require immediate attention. Illnesses such as inflamed digestive tract disease, allergies, and nutritional deficiencies are examples of such conditions.

Types

Minor canker sores can be happen three to four times a year. People between the ages of 10 and 20 are most at risk. There is no scarring, and they heal in approximately a week without leaving any marks.

Significantly large canker sores are more severe, and as a result, they last longer and cause more agony. Scarring is typical once the wound has fully healed.

Canker sores have a herpetiform appearance. Clusters of smaller lesions characterize the majority of patients. They will often feel better in about a week.

When do you need to see a physician?

The vast majority of canker sores are capable of healing on their own and do not require medical care. It is possible that treating severe or recurring ulcers would be helpful, but this will not "cure" the illness. You must get medical attention if the symptoms last longer than two weeks or if other symptoms, such as fever or diarrhea, prove to be severe.
